Meet Shyan

Shyan Nurse, MS, is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern who believes that genuine connection, compassion, and a little laughter can make a meaningful difference in the therapeutic process.

Warm, bubbly, and approachable, Shyan wants therapy to feel like a space where you can show up exactly as you are. You can laugh, cry, talk through something difficult, or simply take your time figuring out what you need. Her priority is helping clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported.

Shyan works with children, teens, and adults, as well as couples and families. She supports clients experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, and everyday life stressors. She also has experience working with neurodivergent children, particularly those on the autism spectrum.

Supporting Different Backgrounds and Experiences

Shyan is particularly passionate about working with people of color, immigrant communities, and individuals and families whose cultural experiences may shape how they approach mental health.

She recognizes that family dynamics, cultural expectations, identity, and lived experiences can all influence a person’s well-being.

Her goal is to provide culturally responsive, respectful care where clients don’t feel pressured to set aside important parts of who they are.

Shyan also enjoys supporting couples and families as they work through communication difficulties, relationship concerns, and challenges that affect their connections with one another.

She believes that meaningful progress begins with understanding, and she strives to help clients feel supported as they work toward healthier relationships with themselves and others.

A Little More About Shyan

Outside of the therapy room, Shyan enjoys spending time with her loved ones and giving back to her community.

Her faith is an important part of her personal life, and she volunteers with citylifeKids at Citylife Church, where she supports children’s growth and well-being, including children who are neurodivergent.

She also loves cooking Caribbean dishes, arts and crafts, organizing, playing The Sims 4, watching movies, and traveling to explore new places.

Shyan brings that same sense of warmth, creativity, and genuine enthusiasm for connecting with others into her work as a therapist.

My approach to therapy

Shyan takes a warm, collaborative, and person-centered approach to therapy, creating a space where clients can feel comfortable being themselves without fear of judgment. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused techniques to help clients better understand their emotions, recognize unhelpful patterns, and develop practical strategies for everyday challenges. Drawing from her background in behavioral health and cultural competence, Shyan adapts her approach to each client's unique experiences, strengths, and goals. She values genuine connection, open communication, and helping clients feel heard and supported throughout the therapeutic process.
