MEET YOUR THERAPIST
Kaitlyn Maxey, MS
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Warm, person-centered support for eating concerns, body image, and neurodivergence.
Meet Katie
Kaitlyn “Katie” Maxey, MS, is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern who believes therapy should be a space where people feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are.
Known for her warmth, humor, and genuine curiosity about the people she works with, Katie takes the time to understand each client’s personality, experiences, and goals. She believes that building a trusting relationship is one of the most important parts of therapy and works to create an environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported.
Katie works with children, teens, adults, and older adults experiencing anxiety, depression, disordered eating, body image concerns, and life transitions. She is also passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals, including people with ADHD and autism.
Her Approach to Therapy
Katie doesn’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to mental health.
She understands that people experience the world differently, and she values finding therapeutic approaches that make sense for each individual. Her work is rooted in person-centered therapy, with an emphasis on collaboration, authenticity, and building a strong therapeutic relationship.
Depending on a client’s needs, Katie incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Interpersonal Therapy.
These approaches can help clients better understand their thoughts and emotions, explore patterns in their relationships, build psychological flexibility, and develop practical ways to respond to life’s challenges.
Katie also enjoys incorporating her clients’ personalities and interests into sessions. She believes therapy can be meaningful and productive while still allowing room for humor, creativity, and genuine connection.
One of her favorite parts of being a therapist is getting to know the people she works with and learning from their different perspectives and experiences.
Supporting Body Image, Eating Concerns & Self-Acceptance
Katie has a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing disordered eating and body image concerns.
She recognizes that relationships with food, appearance, and self-image can be deeply personal and influenced by many different experiences.
Her goal is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore these challenges without feeling pressured, criticized, or misunderstood.
Katie works collaboratively with clients to better understand the thoughts, feelings, and patterns affecting their well-being while supporting healthier relationships with themselves.
Neurodiversity-Affirming Care
Katie is also passionate about working with neurodivergent individuals, including people with ADHD and autism.
She understands the importance of recognizing each person’s individual strengths, needs, and ways of experiencing the world.
Rather than expecting clients to fit into a particular therapeutic structure, Katie values flexibility and finding approaches that work for them.
She strives to create an affirming space where clients can explore their experiences, develop greater self-understanding, and feel supported in being their authentic selves.
A Little More About Katie
Outside of the therapy room, Katie enjoys spending time with her dog, hanging out with friends and family, watching anime, and working out while listening to music.
She brings that same appreciation for individuality, connection, and personal interests into her work with clients.
For Katie, therapy is a collaborative experience, and she believes that getting to know the person behind the challenges is just as important as understanding what brought them to therapy.
My approach to therapy
